Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) is transforming 3D data modeling across various industries and is poised to be the open standard that enables the 3D evolution of the internet — the metaverse. In this hands-on training, we'll present what makes USD unique and the fundamentals for describing, composing, simulating, and collaborating within 3D worlds. You'll learn about data modeling using Prims, attributes, relationships, and custom schemas and composition for scene assembly and collaboration. The hands-on portion of the training will utilize the USD Python API to experiment with the fundamental concepts of USD.
Course Prerequisites
An understanding of fundamental programming concepts in Python 3 such as functions, loops, dictionaries, and arrays
What you will learn
Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) is a powerful way to describe assets in a 3D scene. In this lab, we'll use JupyterLab and Python to automate defining and altering a scene by generating USD files. We will learn how to modify:
- Stages
- Prims
- Attributes
- Variants
