Robotic automation has made significant strides forward, driven by advancements in hardware capabilities that have opened new avenues in simulation and machine learning. This course introduces participants to Isaac Sim, part of NVIDIA Omniverse, a cutting-edge solution for robotics and simulation. You'll dive into the simulation loop of a 3D engine, learning to initialize experiments with objects, robots, and physics logic. While this can be achieved programmatically using Omniverse Kit and Pixar USD commands, Isaac Sim Core offers an object-oriented approach to simplify these operations.

Course Prerequisites

  • Intermediate knowledge and general comfort with Python 3. This includes familiarity with functions, classes, and basic design patterns.
  • Comfort with NumPy arrays and basic matrix operations.
  • A Windows or Linux machine with NVIDIA Omniverse and the Omniverse Streaming Client app.

What you will learn

Participants in this course will gain the skills to develop simulation applications using an interactive Python scripting interface, specify scenes with USD components, launch complex logic tasks within the simulation environment, and control sophisticated robotic models. Specifically, you'll learn to import and manipulate an NVIDIA JetBot wheeled robot and a Franka Emika robotic arm, executing a robotic handoff that demonstrates the power of simulation in orchestrating intricate robotic interactions. Completing this course equips you with the knowledge to delve into Isaac Sim's advanced features and undertake significant project development in the robotics arena.
